Singapore’s such a great city! Here’s my top 10 for your first 48hr trip!

1: Night walk & light shows

If, like me you arrive in the evening get yourself out and about walking the city. If you go at night you get a chance to see the light shows at both Gardens by the bay and the Marina bay. I wrote a second post about my walking route check it out here!

2: Gardens by the bay

My favourite place in Singapore is this garden. If you choose to do the night walk be sure to revisit it in the day time, it’s just as magical. You also get a chance to check out all the wildlife i.e. lizards that come out and appreciate it in the heat. The gardens are free to wonder around and tot up those fitbit steps.

3: Flower dome

The flower dome is an indoor garden filled with flowers and plants displayed with flair and enthusiasm. They change their exhibition so check out the latest at the Gardens by the bay website (link). It’s $28 entry to both this and the cloud dome and tickets can be bought in advance or on the door.

4: Misting at the Cloud forest

If i can make one suggestion that you should definitely follow, think about doing the flower dome and cloud forrest together and get there when it opens at 9am (please check website for upto date times). I went over to the flower dome first and headed to the cloud forest about 40mins after. I was a bit skeptical of the “misting” and if it was worth hanging around for but it definitely is! The first misting time of the day is 10am so get in there a little early and head to the top and onto the walkway to get the above view! As I entered there were 4 other people but by the time the misting started i had the walkway to myself (as you can see)

5: Get your dose of retail therapy on Haji Lane

Haji lane is a short (and lovely walk) from the Nicoll highway MRT station. It’s filled with wonderful independent shows selling things from fabrics and gifts to jewellery. If you get time check out the shop pictured centre called SSFW selling some great contemporary jewellery. (SSFW Website) This street is also a great place to grab some lunch at one of the many small cafe’s, I can recommend the Ondehondeh Cake if you like coconut!

6: Have Singapore sling

Well a trip to Singapore wouldn’t be the same without a singapore sling at the world famous Raffles bar! Except… when i went there it was closed but they’d set up a lovely pop up bar just round the corner which had the same feeling with the floor covered in peanut shells. Expect to pay about £21 for this cocktail but it is yummy. I can also say the G&T is very nice but expensive at around £18. You might only visit once so why not?? 🙂 Raffles website

7: Get the best view on the Supertree Grove Skyway

The supergrove Skyway stands 22m above the ground linking some of the super trees with a walkway. You can get a great view of the gardens and Singapore. A couple of things to make your visit to the walkway a positive one.

1: Get your tickets beforehand! You can buy your tickets by the main tree in the grove and I’d recommend to get them in the morning whether or not your visiting then or, like me, waiting till later as they only have a finite number.

2: Expect to queue. I think i was there for an hour but i wanted to be up on the skyway whilst the light show was on, only every body else had had the same idea so i watched it from the queue (tip visit the show from the ground the night before).

3: Please don’t go just before it closes as they will close it early if they need to and you may not get to go up! You can check out latest opening times here

8: Yummy food at Lau Pa Sat Food Court

This food court is known for it’s chicken satay skewers which are at the back of the food court. I’d decided to be veggie on this tip so I headed inside and found a wonderful curry stall selling vegetarian curry. It’s super tasty and cheap but remember to take cash!

Find the food court here

9: Flea Markets

If you fancy some shopping but want something far less upmarket there are some great flea markets. I found some great cheap clothing to add to my rucksack. Think mobile accessories and cheap gifts.

I headed to Temple Street where there was also a Uniqlo for some more upmarket clothing at really great prices

10: An Airport Experience

Seems like a weird thing to add to a Singapore top 10 but if you’ve got a bit of a wait get out and see the airport. There is a cinema, moving wall, gardens, sculptures and great places to eat! If you visit the website here you can check out what terminal you’re flying in and out and see what’s available. It made my 3 hour wait really pleasurable!

Well thats my top 10, I hope it gave you a few ideas of what to do in this amazing city.
