Borneo Baby!

IMG_0752Well.. i’m off to Borneo! If you’d have asked me at the begining of the year where I wanted to go I can promise you Borneo would not have even been on the list. It’s surprising how suddenly life can take twists and turns and right before you know it you’ve booked yourself a trip!

My mate Joel and his girlfriend Abby have taken a sabbatical this year to travel the world. Check out their instagram @Alpacayourbackpack. Their focus is on Asia! I spent a lot of last year talking with Joel about where they would be going and what contries they would be visiting and I must admit I was pretty jealous of their trip. We joked at one point that this time next year we could be sitting in Thailand having a beer – Sub Thailand for Borneo lol (to be honest I didn’t really think i’d do it)

So fast forward to April (things going a bit tits up at home) I was sat having a low moment and I found myself texting Joel saying can I come meet ya! He said yes and i guess the rest is history!

So 3 weeks ago I plucked up the courage to agree to meet them in Borneo for a week! I got online and booked myself some flights with Qatar to Singapore and then onwards to Borneo with Air asia. (turns out Air asia has some really great deals and it’s super cheap to fly from singapore to Borneo at around £100 with luggage, food and a premium hot seat! (i’ll let you know what one of those is)).

The moment I clicked buy on the Qatar website i felt a wee bit sick. I’d just gone and booked a flight to the other side of the world! That passed after 24hrs and now i’m pretty excited. It sounds like Singapore is a super safe city and although i’ll be travelling for like 26hrs i have a 9hr layover in singapore, I’ve found a way to make the journey part of the Fun (thanks to my mate Litzi for that mindset)

So here’s my plan:

8th July: I fly out to Singapore via Doha with Qatar

9th July:  land in singapore airport and spend the 9hr layover catching up on sleep at airport hotel for about £20 (check it out here) It turns out the airport is a destination in itself so if i’m struggling to sleep I’m gonna take a wonder and check out the movie theatre and the gardens

In the afternoon my flight with Air asia pops me over to Borneo for 8pm to meet the lovely Joel and Abbie.

10th July: 7 days in Borneo – We’ll be having a look-see round Kota Kinabalu, drive out nd have a walk round a mountain an chill in some springs. Then we’ll be seeing a bit of forest before seeing some super cute orang-utans

I then fly back from Borneo to Singapore to have a 30hr stop over to see the city. If you’ve got any ideas for places to go let me know!!

Now comes one of my fav things to do… Packing! yay!
